In the midst of Black History Month, Concordia University Chicago has begun a Bible study which seeks to enable students and community members to understand the Biblical/Christian response to racism.

All are welcome to join the study which will occur every other Thursday night for the remainder of the school semester: February 22, March 8 and 22, April 5 and 19, and May 3.

Benjamin Janssen, a pre-seminary student at Concordia as well as a leader for Ministry to Chicago, the campus Spiritual Life group hosting the study, says, “We chose racism for the topic, because some of the student body voiced that they weren’t aware of the Biblical/Christian response to racism. They know it is wrong, but why?”

Ministry to Chicago has invited faculty and local pastors in the Chicagoland area to speak at the study which occurs at 8pm in Christopher Center 200, a 2nd floor lecture hall in the campus building on the corner of Augusta Street and Monroe Avenue in River Forest.

As the evening snowflakes from Winter Storm Mateo fell on Thursday, February 8, Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Leininger, Concordia’s campus pastor, led the first conversation.

Next week, Pastor Keith Haney, Mission Facilitator for the Northern Illinois District and author of One Nation under God: Healing Racial Divides in America shares on the topic.

The Bible study is open to all who would like to engage further in the ongoing conversation prompted by the brokenness of racism.
