Michelle La Velle has joined the Northern Illinois District office as Administrative Assistant to the President of the LCMS Northern Illinois District. Her experience working with churches in the NID, including St. Peter, Schaumburg and St. John’s, LaGrange, as well as with Lutheran Church Charities, will be put to good use in her work at the district office.
Michelle and her family live in Chicago and are members at St. John’s Lutheran Church, LaGrange. In her free time, Michelle enjoys reading, crafts, and spending time with her family.
Here are a few questions we asked Michelle to get to know her.
What are you excited about in your new position at the NID office?
The day-to-day challenges and new relationships I’ll be engaging in and learning more about the NID.
If you had to pick between 40 days and 40 nights on an ark and 3 days in the belly of a big fish, which would you pick?
Oh, I’d choose the big fish because I get seasick! I went on a luncheon cruise and I was sick all day, so I would definitely pick the belly of a fish. And you get to learn more when you’re on the inside as opposed from the outside perspective. You can see how something works from the inside out… even if it’s a fish!
Who is somebody you admire?
I really enjoyed working with one of my former pastors at St. Peter [Schaumburg], Pastor David Houdack. He was an all-around graceful individual, willing to take time to listen to you. Very understanding and compassionate. I admired his ability to navigate difficult situations.
We look forward to the work the Lord has for us together, Michelle!
