Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, issued calls to 119 students for assignment as pastors, deaconesses, and vicars or interns in their spring call service on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Two men were assigned to the Northern Illinois District.
One vicar and one pastor received assignments April 24 and 25 at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana, to serve within the Northern Illinois District.

Dr. Merle Radke, of St. Louis, a commissioned minister and long-time professor at Concordia University Chicago, River Forest, Illinois, died on March 8, 2017. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 8, at the university.
Dr. W. James Kirchhoff, a commissioned minister in The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) since 1957 and LCMS Northern Illinois District education executive for 23 years, was called to glory on March 1.
Marilyn Lindeman, early leader in Lutheran Early Childhood Education, was called to glory on February 17. Services will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Des Plaines, Illinois, on March 3 and 4.
Rev. Michael Piper, age 54, died in Missouri. He was pastor at St. John Lutheran Church in Beecher, Illinois, from 1988 to 1996.
Services for Rev. Donald Matthiessen, pastor at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sterling, Illinois, will be on February 15-16 in Rock Falls, Illinois.
