During Homecoming week (September 17-22nd), Middle and High School students from Walther Christian Academy in Melrose Park spent a minimum of three hours each performing acts of service for various local and international organizations. Locally, groups of students worked at the Quinn Center in Maywood; Maywood Fine Arts; St. John Lutheran Church, Forest Park; Concordia University Chicago; and Casa Italia in Stone Park. Projects included a garden clean-up, furniture moving, book sorting and painting.
Other Walther students traveled to Schaumburg to pack meals for Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). A total of 250 boxes were packed, enough to feed 145 children for a year. Walther students also collected and donated $400 to FMSC which will provide an additional 1,600 meals. Additionally, a group of Walther music students presented a concert and led a hymn sing for the residents of the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights.
On Sunday, September 30th, Walther students participated in the Proviso Area CROP Hunger Walk raising money to assist hungry individuals and families, locally, nationally and internationally.
