Members of St. Philip Lutheran Church on Bryn Mawr Avenue in Chicago, welcomed Lutherans from Life Stream Oromo Evangelical Church (whose pastor is in the colloquy process of the LCMS) during their regular worship service on September 29, 2019. The service was led by Rev. Thomas Engel, senior pastor of St. Philip Lutheran Church, with President Allan R. Buss preaching.

Those in attendance were able to enjoy the school children from St. Philip Lutheran School’s singing during the worship service.

After the service, members of the two congregations held an “International Potluck,” featuring traditional foods from various countries. Many ethnicities were represented at the potluck, including Ethiopian, Mexican, Swedish, German, English, Polish, and Arabic which allowed for the sharing and celebration of individual culinary gifts by all God’s people.

The Life Stream Oromo Evangelical Church utilizes St. Philip’s building at times for an afternoon worship service.

We also praise God that the pastor of Life Stream Oromo Evangelical Church, Wakfola Dufera, is in Pastoral Colloquy, to obtain admission to the ministerium of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. His participation in our colloquy process is due to his respect for and identity with the Biblical and Confessional teachings of the LCMS.
