Rockford, IL (January 29, 2020) – The League of Women Voters visited Rockford Lutheran School to assist students with their voter registration process. Stephen Vaughan, the school’s government teacher states, “At Rockford Lutheran School, part of our objective in teaching government is to instill an appreciation of the democratic process and the obligations we have as citizens to our democratic governance. Obviously, that involves the need to make your voice known to choose the leaders of our government. We want our students to be civically engaged, and voting is an important aspect of engagement.” This is a great way to get young people involved in the most important aspect of American democracy.

This registration was open to any Rockford Lutheran student who will be 18 years old by November 3rd, the date of the next general election. Those students who took advantage of the opportunity will also be able to vote in Illinois’ March primary, even if they are only 17, as long as they will be 18 on November 3rd. There are approximately 75-80 students who fit that profile. About 10 have already registered.
