March 2017
Mr. Richard R. Rose, Walther faculty member, first joined the ministry at Walther Lutheran High School in 1975. Since then he has worn many hats: band director, basketball coach, designer and builder of both theatre sets and classrooms, and even poms coach. His legacy at Walther, however, is the founding of the Grade School Band Program which has blessed thousands of children since its inception over 40 years ago.
He will retire from his ministry at Walther at the conclusion of this school year. Former students and friends are invited to a celebration of his service May 20-21. Saturday, May 20, will be a “music reunion day.” Alumni who wish to participate in the celebration by playing their instrument and/or singing in the choir are invited for a day of rehearsals, food and fellowship. The day begins with band and choir rehearsals, along with lunch. Then, later in the evening the Walther Jazz Band will host a “jam session” which will include a cocktail hour and the premier of a new piece written to commemorate Rich Rose’s life and career at Walther.
On Sunday, May 21, the Walther bands and choirs, along with participating alumni, will join together to celebrate in song at Spring Concert I. A dinner will be hosted at Walther following the performance.
