Rev. Michael Brown of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Barrington has been installed as Fourth Vice President, representing the North Region of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod Northern Illinois District.
The office was left vacant after Rev. Kris Whitby accepted a call to serve at the District Office as Assistant to the President–Mission and Ministry in December 2019. Rev. Whitby had filled the role since 2014, when he replaced Rev. Scott Christenson.
The regional Vice Presidents assist the District President in his duties providing pastoral care and ministry assistance to congregations and church workers in the District’s four regions, North, South, East, and West.
Pastor Brown currently serves as pastor of Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in Barrington. After graduating from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 2009, his first call was as an associate pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church (English District of the LCMS) in Lincoln, Nebraska. For five years, Pastor Brown served as the English District’s Life Coordinator and in other capacities in the Lincoln area. After serving at Redeemer for nine years, he accepted his current call here in the NID.
Before seminary, Pastor Brown received a B.A. in Public Administration, working at a financial corporation and for a U.S. Senator in Washington D.C. While at the Seminary, he also took an extra year to study at Westfield House in Cambridge, England.
Growing up in Kansas City, Missouri, Pastor Brown loves BBQ, Jazz, the Royals, and of course the upcoming 2021 World Champion Chiefs. Pastor Brown is currently single with a dog named Pep, who believes she is a professional squirrel hunter.
“It is an honor to serve the greater church through the NID in this small way, filling out the rest of Pastor Kristopher Whitby’s term as Vice President of the North Region,” says Pastor Brown. “Through Word, Wellness, and Witness, I look forward to confessing, praising, and advancing God’s Kingdom together as a district.”
