Rev. Juan G. Berndt, 92, was called to glory on Wednesday, October 18, 2017.
He was the beloved husband of the late Erma (nee Beckmann); loving father of Ursula (Ron) Abresch, Jerry (Yolanda) Berndt, Cordy (Mike) MacDonald and the late Ronny and Cristian; cherished grandfather of Martin, Mariana, Jonathon, Laura, Ximena, Veronica, Gabriela, Laura; great grandfather of Danny; and dear brother of Margarita, Martin, Lee, Ted, Dorothy, Ernie and the late Erna, Herbert and Manfred.
Pastor Berndt was ordained February 4, 1951. In his early ministry, he served in Argentina and Chile, and later at the Hispanic Institute Concordia, River Forest, Illinois until his retirement in 1996.
Visitation will be held at the Zimmerman-Harnett Funeral Home, 7319 Madison Street, Forest Park, Illinois, Sunday, October 22, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral will be held Monday, October 23, beginning at 9:45 a.m. at Zimmerman-Harnet Funeral Home and processing to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1025 W. Lake Street, Melrose Park, where service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Interment is at Concordia Cemetery, 7900 W. Madison Street, Forest Park, Illinois.
