On May 21, 2023, the congregation of Peace Lutheran Church in Beecher, Illinois, became a member of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.
The sermon was delivered by the Rev. Dr. Allan R. Buss, President, LCMS Northern Illinois District President, and assisted by Pastor Michael Stein and Pastor Julian LaMie. The Gospel reading was from Matthew 28:18-20: “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””
President Buss noted “The worship was uplifting as the three congregations came together leading the future of the Church. Peace Lutheran Church is here for Jesus and the community in which they have been planted. They are about Jesus and His Word.”
This was a cumulation of months of conversations, work, and prayer by the three congregations whose members have been active in the Beecher community for over 150 years. As they sorted through their decisions, the determining questions was “What’s the main thing?” That, is Jesus Christ.
The Peace Lutheran Church building at 540 Oak Park Ave., will be referred to as their Beecher Campus and the Peace Lutheran Church building at 28054 S Yates Ave. will be referred to as their Eagle Lake Campus. The St. Paul location will not be rebuilding a new building. As Pastor Stein said after the fire, “The building is gone, but the Church remains.”
“We are building each other up. We are here to stay and we are excited for the future. We look forward to serving and growing in our community for many years to come.”
Peace Lutheran Church will continue to flourish through and with the next generations, in and for a community of Bible believing people.
