Everyone is invited. Everyone is included.
With bright grins and merrily waving flags, teams from various organizations joined together as one this weekend to walk in Voice of Care’s second Miles for Mileage event of the summer.
Voice of Care is a registered service organization which helps the Church provide spiritual care to people with diverse abilities and those individuals who care for them. Each week, the Voice of Care team travels to churches around the country, especially churches in the Midwest, to teach of the many ways in which a church can create an environment which is considerate to and inclusive of people of all abilities.
“Voice of Care trains church workers and lay volunteers to serve in five types of disability ministry: Congregational Life, Disability Awareness, Facility Ministry, Outdoor Ministry, and REST (Respite Education and Support Tools).”
Each summer, Voice of Care hosts two Miles for Mileage fundraiser events. Members of the community gather for a one mile walk, worship through a sing-a-long, and a time of fellowship over lunch. Together, the participants’ miles raise funds which cover a portion of the ministry team’s travel expenses for the year, a cost which is fundamental to the health of Voice of Care’s ministry as it opens doors for the ministry team to continue to travel to churches and facilities across the region.
On July 21 the first event of the summer was held at St. Peter, Schaumburg and this past Saturday, August 18, the second event was held at Castaldo Park in Woodridge. Friends of the ministry joined to walk through the park until they gathered together again in the pavilion to lift their voices, wave flags, or simply sit and enjoy the joyful noises of praise being offered to the Lord all around them.
We thank the Lord for the necessary ministry which Voice of Care provides to our District and ask you to join us in praying for them.
