Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, Rev. Matthew Schettler, and Rev. Dr. Allan Busss at Concordia University Chicago’s opening service on August 25, 2019.

Pastor Schettler comes to Chicago from his hometown of Orchard Park, New York, just south of Buffalo. After graduating Orchard Park High School, he attended Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and then Concordia College in Bronxville, New York, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2014.  While at Bronxville, he served as a fieldworker at Trinity Lutheran Church in Scarsdale, and then at Our Savior Lutheran Church in the Bronx, where he developed a passion for city ministry.

Upon his graduation from college, Pastor Schettler enrolled at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He served his fieldwork at Clear Lake Lutheran Church in Fremont Indiana. After his first year of seminary, he took up a summer vicarage in Baltimore where he served in varying capacities at five Lutheran congregations – Martini, Redeemer, St. Thomas, Christ, and Nazareth. He returned to Baltimore to serve his full-year vicarage at Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Mission Society.

Upon graduation from seminary, Pastor Schettler received a divine call to serve Resurrection Lutheran Church on Chicago’s South Side. He began his tenure there on June 29th, 2019. He is enjoying getting to know the people of Resurrection and sharing the life-saving, life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ with those he meets on the South Side. And even though he’s moved to Chicago, he won’t stop being a fan of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres.
