Marilyn Lindeman, of Des Plaines, Illinois, a commissioned minister in The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and leader in the development of early childhood education in the LCMS Northern Illinois District, was called to glory on February 17.

She was a 1971 graduate of Concordia-River Forest and did graduate work at the University of Illinois-Urbana, earning an MA in education there in 1980 and an MA in early childhood education in 1981. She was involved in the development of a Lutheran curriculum for a 4-year-old preschool program and opened the first Lutheran preschool in the LCMS Northern Illinois District, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Des Plaines, Illinois.

She was the Northern Illinois District’s first Early Childhood Coordinator, assisting other churches and elementary schools in opening preschools, and had served on the district’s Education Department Advisory Cabinet for 30 years when she retired from district service in 2014.

She also served on the district’s Board for Human Care, co-chaired the first national Lutheran Education Association Early Childhood Conference, helped found the Concordia University Early Childhood Conference and was part of an education delegation to Poland in 1991.
