On Sunday, January 13, 2019, St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Aurora held a dedication service which celebrated their new school addition, allowing the whole student body to be under one roof. Their theme:
Grateful. Thankful. Blessed.
Rev. Danny Tutwiler, pastor Emeritus, led the service which was comprised of piano music played by a former student, singing from St. Paul’s current students, and readings led by the current principal, Diane Katz, and former principals.
The students’ song in the dedication service reflected praise for “God from whom all Blessings Flow”. Mrs. Diane Katz shared a history of the school followed by a ribbon cutting and tour the school. The ribbon cutting opened with “Let this building be a place of nourishment in the Word of God that all who come here may grow in the knowledge and wisdom of the only true and saving God.”
St. Paul Lutheran School’s history starts in 1865, over 150 years ago. In 1865, German Lutherans started a one-room school for grades 1-5 at the corner of Benton and Jackson in Aurora. As soon as 1897 St. Paul had 140 students, requiring a new building. Again in 1949, the congregation voted to build a new school because the school had grown in numbers. In 1951, the student body had 269 students.
In 1993 a new addition was dedicated. It housed a computer lab, library/resource center, a fellowship hall, and a science lab. In 2009 the school was moved to the west side and joined the church at its current location.
