Dates Set for October Friends of Lutheran World Relief Ingathering
Friends of Lutheran World Relief (FLWR) encourages all congregations in the Chicago land area to bring the quilts and kits they’ve made to any of the following sites on Saturday, October 7, 9 a.m. to noon, and Sunday, October 8, 12-3 p.m.
This annual Fall Ingathering, provided for over 30 years, is a coordinated service to area congregations through FLWR and Lutheran World Relief (LWR) in Baltimore, Maryland. LWR works worldwide to help people in need when faced with natural or societal disasters.
Drop-off Sites
2017 drop-off sites will be at:
- Messiah Lutheran Church, 1605 Vernon (1 block southwest of Lutheran General Hospital), Park Ridge, Illinois 847-823-6984
- Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 4501 Main St., Downers Grove, Illinois, 630-968-6231
- Faith Lutheran Church, 353 N. Midland Ave., Joliet, Illinois, 815-725-4213
- Zion Lutheran Church, 925 Fifth Ave., Rockford, Illinois, 815-964-4609
Items accepted include quilts, fleece-tied blankets, school kits, personal care kits, baby care kits, fabric kits and new bars of soap in original wrapper (bath-size preferred, other sizes accepted).
Packaging must be limited to 40 pounds per box. Please use strong cartons secured with packing tape. Label the contents in large block letters. Do not mix contents (all quilts or all personal care kits, etc.) Bring along a tally count of the items donated. Visit lwr.org/pack for details.
Use the Tracker System
The Quilt & Kit Tracker System has proved exciting for donors. Follow the journey of your gifts of love as they make their way around the world. Visit lwr.org/tracker for printable instructions and a Quilt & Kit Tracker video tutorial.
It is quite simple to print out special barcode labels to place on your boxes of Quilts and Kits. Then track your items online as they travel overseas to people in need.
Year-round Donations
Congregations can respond to Lutheran World Relief’s appeal for quilts and kits year-round. Items may be brought to the Church of the Brethren, 1451 Dundee Ave., (Route 25), Elgin, IL 60120; (847.742.5100); Monday-Friday, 8:00 to 11:30 am and 1:00 to 3:30 P.M. (call the day before to ensure someone is there).
Please label all boxes delivered to Church of the Brethren clearly with the contents, your congregation’s name and address and “Lutheran World Relief.”
