The weather in Lisle was warm and sunny on July 28. And inside Trinity, Lisle’s Green Trails site, the atmosphere also was warm and sunny. Thirty-one ladies gathered together to celebrate both their similarities and their uniqueness. The theme of the Pastors’ Wives Gathering was Psalm 139:14, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” The gathering encouraged women with fellowship, laughter and an impactful service project.
Keynote speaker Kendra Von Esh radiated the joy that comes only from knowing Jesus. She shared how her previous lifestyle was empty even though, according to the world, she had the success and finances that should make her happy. She spoke of her continuing faith journey as the Holy Spirit leads her through her next season of life.
Sandi Helm provided information about Dignity4Girls, a ministry that began at Family in Faith, Glendale Heights. She taught the group that girls in undeveloped countries miss school every month due to a lack of feminine hygiene supplies. For a cost of about $10, Dignity4Girls creates feminine hygiene kits that include reusable sanitary pads, underwear, washcloths and soap. Once assembled, the kits are shipped to impoverished communities around the world and can last up to 3 years. The kits give girls the ability to attend school during menstruation. That increased school attendance is impacting the dropout rate in a positive way. Sandi’s presentation also touched on basic hygiene education efforts.
The service project helped Dignity4Girls put finishing touches on hygiene kits. Finishing touches included ironing, cutting material for the hygiene bags and threading drawstrings.
Dignity4Girls advocates for vulnerable women and girls globally. You can make an impact through this ministry in several ways. To get involved or to schedule an event, visit the ministry’s website dignity4girls.org.
