Former pastor in the LCMS Northern Illinois District Rev. Michael Piper, age 54, was called to glory on February 7, 2017. He was serving as pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Melle, Missouri. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, at that church. Information the district received states he suffered a stroke several weeks ago.
Pastor Piper was a 1988 graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was pastor in this district from 1988 to 1996 at St. John Lutheran Church in Beecher. He has served in New Melle since 1997.
He is survived by his wife Kay, sons Joshua, Robert and Thomas of New Melle, daughter Natalie Piper of St. Louis, his father and stepmother, siblings, and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother June and brother Scott.
