Elmer H. Becker died on May 9, 2018 in Weston, Wisconsin at the age of 97.
He was born on July 23, 1920 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Otto and Emma Becker. He was the third child of a family of four children. His father was a lifetime teacher in Lutheran parochial schools. Elmer also followed this profession for 42 years until he retired at age 65. He studied for the teaching profession at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska and graduated in 1941. He taught one year in Marysville, Kansas, and transferred to Lombard, Illinois in 1942 to teach at Trinity Lutheran School in York Center just south of Lombard.
He met Delores Nordbrock there and they were married in 1951. In 1952 he accepted a call to teach at St. Martins’ Lutheran school in Winona, Minnesota. After six years there, he
accepted a call to teach at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Chicago Heights, Illinois where he taught until his retirement in 1985.
Elmer is survived by Delores, his wife of 66 years; three children: Mark (Joanne) Becker of Crete, IL, James (Natalie) Becker of Weston, WI, and Patricia (Michael) Fry of Bloomington, IL; eight grandchildren; David (Caryn) Becker of Homewood, IL, Stephanie Becker of Crete, IL, Katherine Becker of Wheaton, IL, Sarah Becker of West Allis, WI, Kyle Becker of Sheboygan, WI, Eric Becker of Weston, WI, Haley Fry of Chicago, IL, and Ellery Fry ofTampa, FL; and one great grandson: Barrett Becker of Homewood, IL.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 19, at 12 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3212 Old Costa Lane, Schofield, WI. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Andrew Franza will officiate.
