Reverend George J. Mrochen passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023. He was born in Germany in 1944. He was beloved husband to Ruth E. (nee Krueger) for 45 years, and dear father to Paul, Andrew, and John Mrochen.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado in 1968. He then served in the United States Army from 1968-1971 and received his Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis in 1976.

Reverend Mrochen served in the Chicago area for his entire pastoral ministry. His vicarage was at St. Philip Lutheran Church and he served as pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Church on South Racine Avenue in Chicago for 41 years, from 1976 until his retirement in 2017. He then served a vacancy for and later received a call to St. Peter Lutheran Church on Kedvale Avenue in Chicago where he faithfully served from 2020 until the time of his death.

Visitation will be held at Kosery Funeral Home at 9837 S. Kedzie, Evergreen Park on Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be held Monday, November 20, 2023 at St. Peter Lutheran Church at 8550 S. Kedvale, Chicago. Visitation will be held there from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Bethania Cemetery in Justice, IL.

It is requested that all pastors planning to attend the funeral service please vest in cassock/surplice or alb with a red stole.
