The Reverend Dr. William H. Griffin, Jr. passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024.

He was born in 1929 in Kennapolis, North Carolina.

He received a Master of Divinity degree in 1951 from Immanuel Lutheran College in Greensboro, North Carolina. He received a Master of Arts degree in 1968 from Concordia Teacher’s College.

Throughout his long time serving in pastoral ministry, he was honored to have been a missionary to the Alabama field from 1951-1956. He also served as pastor at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois, as Director of the Deaconette program at Concordia University, River Forest (now Concordia University Chicago), and pastor at Zion Lutheran Church (at 109th) in Chicago, Illinois. He retired from the ministry in 1993.

He was married to Ella Mae. Their union was blessed with four children: Marie, Mark, Maven, and Millicent.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 9901 S. Winston Ave., Chicago, IL 60643. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., with a meal to follow. Pastors attending the service are asked to wear red stoles.

Burial will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Lakeside Cemetery in Port Huron, Michigan.
