The Rev. Aden Edwin Loest, age 88, of McHenry, passed away on December 28, 2020.
The Rev. Aden Edwin Loest, age 88, of McHenry, passed away on December 28, 2020. He was born January 18, 1932, to Otto and Elfrieda (Christian) Loest at Randolph, Wisconsin.
 
Beloved husband of the late Deaconess Ruth (Jacobsen) +1991. He was the loving father of the Rev. Mark (Malinda) Loest, Timothy (Cynthia) Loest, Naomi (Joseph) Scianna, and Deborah (Jeffery) Alig. Cherished grandfather of Audrey (Kenton) Smith, and Anna (Charles) Russell, Abigail, Andrew and Alexander Loest, Stefan and Soren Loest, Joe, Benjamin and Jacob Scianna. Dearest brother of Shirley DeVries. Besides his parents and dear wife, Aden was predeceased by a sister, Joanne Schaeffer.
 
A visitation will be held Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church, 4206 W. Elm St, McHenry, Illinois, where he will lie in state from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Due to COID restrictions a private service is planned with a memorial service in the future when allowed. Burial at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville, Illinois.
 
Rev. Loest was a graduate of Concordia College, Milwaukee (today at Mequon, Wisconsin) and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri. Before ordination, he did a ministerial internship (vicarage) at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Aberdeen, South Dakota. He was ordained into the Office of the Holy Ministry on July 12, 1959.
 
During his 61 years as an ordained minister, Rev. Loest served Lutheran churches in Minnesota including, from 1959 – 1964, Trinity, Staples, and St. John’s, Motley, and from 1964–1970, Faith, St. Cloud, and Trinity, Clear Lake. Pastor served Lutheran churches in Northern Illinois including Concordia, Hillside, from 1970 – 1981, Bethel, Gurnee, from 1981–1995, and in retirement, Zion, McHenry, until his health would no longer allow.
