Donald F. Hermann, age 95, died peacefully on April 29, 2024, at Lutheran Home and Services in Arlington Heights., Illinois.

Donald was a devout, kind, and caring Christian. He dedicated his life to his Lord, his wife, and the church. At the age of 9, he began playing the organ in church and continued playing for 80 years.

He attended high school and college at Concordia Teachers College/Concordia University in Nebraska and achieved a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University. Don served as Music Director and 5th grade teacher at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights for 40 years. In retirement, he substituted as an organist there and at churches throughout the area.

He leaves behind a legacy of music which he wrote for church celebrations, anniversaries, and special occasions. He is remembered very fondly for the Christmas music and services. Several pieces are still sung regularly at St. Peter and across the country.

He and his dear wife, Marilyn, worked side by side and enjoyed 68 years together. They loved to travel and visited all 50 states and many countries.

Don is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn (nee Meyer); brother and sister-in-law, Wayne (Jane) Meyer; his nephews, Craig and Ross (Jill) Meyer; and his many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter, and Helen (nee Schaefer) Hermann.

The visitation and funeral service were held Monday, May 6, 2024 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 111 West Olive Street, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment was at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
