Called to Glory – Andrew Barr

Andrew K. “Andy” Barr, age 87, a resident of Plainfield, IL since 1999 (formerly of Chicago, IL), passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at The Pearl of Joliet, IL. He was born on December 13, 1938, in Chicago, IL.

He was beloved husband of Audrey E. Barr (née Israel), whom he married on August 11, 1968. He was also the devoted son of the late Andrew and Marie (née Schwandt) Barr, son-in-law of the late Edward and Edna Israel, dear brother of John (Grace) Barr of Algonquin, IL and the late Richard (the late Kay Bette) Barr, brother-in-law of Sharon Kanzler of Plainfield, fond uncle of David (Brandie) Barr, Kristin Barr and Michael (Helen) Barr; Jane (Doug) Hicks and Laura (Richard) Sjoberg; Jeff (Patty) Buck and the late Greg (Susan) Buck; fond cousin, great-uncle, great-great uncle and friend of many.

Andy grew up in Chicago’s North Side, was a member and student at Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church, graduated from Kelvyn Park High School, and earned a degree in Education from Concordia College in River Forest, IL. He served as a teacher and principal for many years at Saint Martini Lutheran Church and Peace Lutheran Church, both in Chicago, and Salem Lutheran Church in Blue Island, IL. Andy also taught at Hope Lutheran Church in Chicago.

Andy was an organist and choir director, and he also enjoyed traveling and gardening.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Overman-Jones Funeral Home, 15219 Joliet Rd. (Corner of Rt. 30 and Rt. 59), Plainfield, IL 60544.

A celebration of Andy’s life will be held on Thursday. March 12, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 24024 W. Main St., Plainfield, IL 60544, (815) 436-9847, with Rev. Dr. David P. Balla officiating.

Family and friends will meet Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. at Chapel Hill Gardens South Cemetery, 11333 S. Central Ave., Oak Lawn, IL 60453 for graveside services.
