Gene Halterman departed this life on Monday, June 12, 2023. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Anne Nelson, and his parents, Eugene Edward and Clara (nee Keehn).
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (nee Runge), daughter, Lora (Tobias) Hatch; grandson, Nathan; son-in-law, Andrew Nelson (Debi); adopted family, Wendy Kirin, Daniel Kirin and Aaron Kirin, a niece and three nephews.
Gene was a retired principal and teacher, dedicated church worker, Bible class teacher, and church elder at the Lutheran Church of the Pines. He also served the The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod on both the Northern Illinois District Board of Directors and the Southern District Board of Directors. He loved God, family, friends, golf and traveling.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday July 22, 2023, 10:30 a.m., at Lutheran Church of the Pines, 309 Highway, MS 39576.
Memorial contributions will be appreciated to L.C. of the Pines, Lutheran Church Charities, St. Jude’s Children Hospital or Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
