Five local Illinois Lutheran churches (Vida Y Fe in West Dundee, Immanuel in East Dundee, St. John’s in Elgin, Faith in Carpentersville, and Bethlehem in West Dundee) joined together in celebrating Ascension Day with a dinner and worship service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in West Dundee.
Pastor Joe Glombicki, who was recently installed at Bethlehem, and previously was a pastor at Immanuel, East Dundee, gave the message based on Acts 1:7–11 and was about taking Spirit-led action to spread the Gospel, grounded in the promise and power of God. Together, congregants explored how Jesus’ ascension marked a turning point in the mission of the Church—calling each us not to stand still, but to go boldly, living out our faith with purpose, empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Worship was enhanced by a combined choir who praised in our Risen Savior in song. Immanuel’s Senior Pastor, William Yonker, gave an Ascension message to the children. The Peace of the Lord was offered to some familiar faces and many new faces. Holy Communion was shared, giving Jesus’ forgiveness and salvation. The service closed with the stirring hymn “Crown Him with Many Crowns,” (LSB 525) accompanied by the grand pipe organ.
Prior to the worship service, wonderful food and fellowship were shared, bridging East and West Dundee, Carpentersville, and Elgin as well allowing for interaction between language and culture. These congregations look forward to many more occasions with opportunity to join with their neighbors in fellowship and praise to our Lord.
