The following announcement and remembrance was provided by the family of Pastor Dorn. We grieve with them and pray that the Holy Spirit ignites in us all the hope of the resurrection.

“It is with deep love and grief that the children of Louis Otto Dorn want to mark his passing on July 16, 2020. He lived to be 92. He was known by many as “Pa Dorn” because he was a friend and father to all. He lived his life centered in God and always following his call toward ministry in whatever form it took.  He served in the Philippines as a missionary for 21 years. Part of that time he was a pastor, and then he moved into full-time work with translations, including the production of a Tagalog hymnal. He earned a Master’s degree in Linguistics from Ateneo de Manila University. Upon leaving the Philippines he earned a ThD from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. He then worked until retirement for the United Bible Societies centered in New York City. Upon retirement in North Carolina he continued ministering in other ways until making his final move back to the Chicago area, where his ministry continued in the form of loving and amicable relations with all he met and with those who cared for him. His wife, Erna Dorn, passed away in 2011. We, Margie Dorn White with Keith White, Peter Dorn with Teena Dorn, Martin Dorn with Imke Akkermann-Dorn, and Judy Dorn with Jeff Mullins, as well as his seven grandchildren, will miss him more than we can say, until we meet again.”

The funeral is to be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 4247  183rd Street, Country Club Hills on Saturday, July 25, 2020. Visitation at 10:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m.
